Statement: Our border is overwhelmed. I keep hearing claims that the border is ‘open’. Nonsense.
We have record apprehensions and seizures, empirical proof that the border is not ‘open’. It’s overwhelmed.

My Rebuttal: Regardless of what we call it, the border is anything but secure. America cannot sustain an influx of 5000 to 20000 immigrants a day crossing our southern border. Regardless of our humanitarian wishes, it is not possible. We cannot even sustain our own population; poverty is ranked as the number 4 cause of death in the US. Until we solve our own wealth/poverty ratio we cannot compound it by accepting immigrants/migrants that only add to the problem.  Additi America cannot sustain an influx of 5000 to 20000 immigrants a day crossing our southern border. Regardless of our humanitarian wishes, it is not possible.

We must SECURE the southern border and do everything in our power to change the conditions in the countries that these people are coming from. Ultimately OUR only solution is the solution in THIER countries.  There is also the problem of almost unrestricted drugs flowing into the US, as well as guns flowing from the US into Mexico. Stopping record amounts or not, we are only catching a small portion of the amount being trafficked (see War on Drugs).

We must SECURE the southern border. Understanding that it can never be completely locked down we must do what we can to secure it.  Building additional sections to the wall where practical and adding additional surveillance and personnel would be a great improvement. Entry points and checkpoints are some of the weakest links. Additional manpower and technological improvements’ need to be made.

Making the border more secure will be expensive, but the cost of not securing the border is much worse. What is the cost of migrant camps, courts, transportation (both in the US and in sending migrants back to their countries, not to mention the cost of the War on Drugs that we are dramatically losing. These costs are just a small part of the total cost and to not even take into consideration of the emotional and physical cost to the migrants in getting to the US and then trying to stay in the US.
